In planeus, an **Installer** is a special type of [Parallel Resources](docId:5E4pJD__vvYxLpkIc3oha) used for setup or preparation work that happens at the same time as a production step.

When you mark a resource as an Installer:

- Its task will **start together** with the main Work Step, but** end after a certain duration.**
- planeus makes sure both the main task and the Installer are available at the same time before scheduling.

## Use Cases for Installers

The Installer feature is especially helpful in industries where partial manual setup or short manned operations are critical for an otherwise automated process, such as: 

- **Pharmaceutical Manufacturing**
  - Certified specialists need to set up, load, or verify equipment before each production
- **CNC &** **Highly Automated Industries**
  - Qualified engineers are required to setup the machine or switch tools before a long, automated operation.
  - Qualified technicians are required to calibrate machines or robotics systems before starting high-precision tasks.
- **Food Processing**
  - Operators may need to clean and prepare equipment between batches to meet hygiene standards.
- **Aerospace Production**
  - Specialized engineers might configure or inspect machinery before a critical manufacturing step.

## Rules for Moving Installers in the Gantt Chart

If you move a Work Step with an Installer and it partially overlaps unavailable time:

- planeus suggests alternative resources, if possible.
- If there’s no alternative or availability, planeus might **shorten the Installer’s time** to fit the new schedule.

If you switch the resource for an Installer in the detail panel:

- The duration of the Installer might change if the new Resource isn’t available the full time.
- If the Installer’s time was shortened earlier, planeus will keep the same duration on the new Resource.
