planeus provides two complementary Material Requirement Planning (MRP) views for material planning, designed to address different levels of detail and typical challenges in production environments:

- **Arranged Material Requirements** → Period-based overview
- **Material Requirements** → Point-Of-Use, Step-level precision view

Together, they help bridge the gap between **high-level planning** and **real execution on the shop floor**.

## How the Two Work Together

| **Use Case** | **MRP View** |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| “What materials do we need to prepare for next month’s planned orders?” | Arranged Material Requirements |
| "When exactly do we need them?" | Material Requirements |

# Arranged Material Requirements

The automatically generated **Arranged Material Requirements **report summarizes material demand across a selected time period.

## How it works

1. Article's BOMs and Routings are defined in planeus's Technology
2. Materials are assigned to specific Work Steps inside the BOM
3. Production orders are planned in planeus
4. Each order item references its BOM
5. planeus aggregates all requirements within a defined period
6. planeus generates a **time-bucketed material overview**

Arranged Material Requirements provides a **clear, aggregated view of material demand within a time period**, making it easier to do accurate material planning on a weekly or monthly level.

# Material Requirements

The** Material Requirements **reports goes into detailed step-level and shows:

- Point-of-Use Material requirements per **production step**
- Exact **sequence and timing** (based on the production plan)
- Required quantities at each step
- Context of the actual production flow

## How it works

The **Material Requirements **report starts from the actual production schedule and identifies exactly **where each material is needed in the production flow**.

1. Production orders are scheduled in the Gantt chart
2. Each work step has a defined sequence, workstation, and planned timing
3. Materials are assigned directly to the specific work step where they are consumed
4. The system links:
   - BOM
   - Routing / work steps
   - Production schedule
5. The result is a **point-of-use material plan** that shows the material requirement at the exact production step, location, and planned time it is needed

:::hint{type="success"}
Material Requirements shows material demand **down to the exact moment it is needed**, helping ensure materials are available **at the right production step**,** at the right time**.
