# Locations

Setting up **Locations **can help you **filter your data in planeus.**

You can assign a Location to:

- A user
- An Article (product)

Once assigned, the system automatically applies a **default filter** based on that location in:

- The Article Master Data
- Planning Objects related to that Article

## How to create Locations?

- Go to **Configuration → Locations** to create your list of locations.

## Assigning Locations 

- You can assign a location to an **article.**
- You can also assign a location to a **user** in User Management

## Where Does the Location Filter Apply?

The Location filter works automatically in:

- Article Master Data
- Planning Objects tied to the article

You can always remove the Location filter if needed.

**Important:**
The Location filter **will not apply to Projects**, because a Project can include Order Items or Articles from multiple Locations.

**Locations** make it easy to filter your data by site or plant, helping users focus only on the data **relevant to them**!

# Exporting Your Database

You can download a backup of your planeus database via:

- **Administration → Backup**

## Why Use This Feature?

For **planeus Cloud customers:**
You can export your data in **MySQL database format** to meet the requirements of your contract.

For **On-Premise installations:**
If you’re responsible for your own backups, you can use your** own database management system** or other tools to secure your data.
